Shaking Hands - Intercultural Competence

Intercultural competence is one of the most important core competences in our time.
The
Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS), the Global Systems and Intercultural Competence (GSiK) and the
International Office (IO) are offering an intercultural competence workshop for students, doctoral students, and post-docs from abroad who want to prepare themselves for their stay in Würzburg.
Our aims
We want to make life easier for people from abroad. We want to give you an idea how your new surrounding here in Würzburg will be like. Moreover, we also want to learn about and from you, your aims and hopes and expectations…
“Shaking hands“
We’ve called our workshop “Shaking hands“ because that’s what everyone does here when saying hello. Everyone? On every occasion? We’ll find that out. And we will take a look at some more things that you might find helpful to know in daily life. What kinds of communication styles are people used to? What kinds of expectations are common? How do people work together? What are their favorite spare time activities, what are important festivities?
We will be communicating in English – which is (probably) not your and definitely not our native language. But we know that it often requires more than just language competence to be able to communicate successfully.
When?
Date still to be fixed.
