Die Forschungsstelle über sich
The "RobotRecht" [FoRoRe] research centre was founded in mid-2010 at the Chair of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Legal Theory, Information Law and Legal Informatics at the University of Würzburg's Faculty of Law. Under the leadership of Prof Dr Dr Eric Hilgendorf, a team of several members is tackling the legal challenges posed by technical developments in the field of autonomous systems. These range from driverless vehicles to cooperating industrial or household robots and novel forms of artificially intelligent software. At the beginning of 2025, the name was changed to "Research Centre for AI and Robot Law"; the former abbreviation of the research centre "FoRoRe" was discarded at the same time and is no longer used.
The intensive co-operation with manufacturers, suppliers, users and research enables the practical handling of liability, criminal law and data protection issues and guarantees sound legal support for technical development. The interdisciplinary exchange between theory and practice enables the identification of legal problem areas and the appropriate development of proposed solutions.
