Dr Baran Kizilirmak, LL.M.
Baran Kizilirmak studied law at Ankara University (Turkey) and completed his first master's programme at Istanbul University with his master's thesis entitled "Use of preventively collected data in criminal proceedings". He then completed a second Master's programme in European and European Legal Studies at the University of Hamburg, which he attended as a Jean Monnet scholarship holder. After successfully completing the master's programme as the second best student and submitting his master's thesis entitled "Cross-Border Transfer of Personal Data Under GDPR Regime and Turkish Legal Framework", he obtained the academic degree of LL.M. After completing his education, he worked as a research assistant at Kadir Has University (Turkey) at the Chair of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure. In the meantime, he has taken a leave of absence to do his doctorate at the Robot Law Research Centre under Prof. Dr Dr Eric Hilgendorf. Funded by the DAAD, he is doing his doctorate on criminal law issues relating to the use of autonomous systems. His legal specialisations and areas of interest are information technologies, data protection law, artificial intelligence and criminal law.
