Artificial Intelligence and Law

The Legal Tech Centre at the University of Würzburg is actively shaping the future of law and technology – with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI). It researches legal issues of the digital age, classifies technological developments and prepares students specifically for the opportunities and challenges of AI. The Legal Tech Centre receives support from the Hilgendorf Chair and the AI and Robot Law Research Centre, which contribute their expertise in research and teaching.


DLD Future Hub: Impact of AI 2025 in Munich

In September 2025, the Legal Tech Centre, together with the Hilgendorf Chair, participated in the DLD Future Hub: Impact of AI in Munich. The international conference brought together leading representatives from science, business and politics – including OpenAI, DeepL, Palantir, Google and Minister President Markus Söder.


AI Legal Revolution 2025 in Würzburg

At the AI Legal Revolution in Würzburg, the Legal Tech Centre attended a panel discussion on the future of legal education in the age of AI. Prof. Dr. Dr. Eric Hilgendorf, member of the Bavarian AI Council and the European Commission's High-Level Expert Group on AI, contributed key perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of AI in legal education.


AI course for secretaries at the law faculty

On 12 November 2025, the Legal Tech Centre offered its first AI course for secretaries at the Faculty of Law, covering the use and specific benefits of AI. In particular, the course addressed the opportunities and risks as well as the legal challenges associated with the use of AI.


Themed week: ‘AI and law’

From 1 to 4 December, the Legal Tech Centre, the Würzburg Law Alumni Association and the AI and Robot Law Research Centre held their AI theme week. The lectures ranged from the future of legal professions (Prof. Thomas Klindt) to the social role of large tech companies (Prof. Martin Andree, Prof. Markus Oermann) to practical AI applications (Svantje Kaibel, Max Schneider). Johannes Härtlein presented European AI regulation before Prof. Eric Hilgendorf concluded the series with a look at legal education in the age of AI.
