Artificial intelligence and law

The Legal Tech Centre at the University of Würzburg is actively shaping the future of law and technology, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI). Among other things, it researches legal issues of the digital age, classifies technological developments and prepares students specifically for the opportunities and challenges of AI. The centre receives support from the Hilgendorf Chair and the AI and Robot Law Research Centre, which contribute their expertise in research and teaching.


DLD Future Hub: Impact of AI 2025 in Munich

In September 2025, the Legal Tech Centre and the Hilgendorf Chair took part in the DLD Future Hub: Impact of AI in Munich. The international conference brought together leading representatives from science, business and politics, including OpenAI, DeepL, Palantir, Google and Minister President Markus Söder.


AI Legal Revolution 2025 in Würzburg

At the AI Legal Revolution trade fair in Würzburg, the Legal Tech Centre hosted a panel discussion on the future of legal education in the age of AI. Prof Dr Dr Eric Hilgendorf, member of the Bavarian AI Council and the High-Level Expert Group on AI of the European Commission, contributed key perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of AI in legal education


AI course for the secretaries of the Faculty of Law

On 12 November 2025, the Legal Tech Center offered an AI course on the use of AI and its concrete benefits for the secretaries of the Faculty of Law for the first time. In particular, the opportunities and risks as well as the legal challenges of using AI were also discussed.


Theme week "AI and law"

The AI theme week of the Legal Tech Center, the Juristen Alumni Würzburg and the AI and Robot Law Research Centre took place from 1 to 4 December. The lectures ranged from the future of legal professions (Prof Thomas Klindt) to the social role of large tech companies (Prof Martin Andree, Prof Markus Oermann) and practical AI applications (Svantje Kaibel, Max Schneider). Johannes Härtlein presented European AI regulation before Prof Eric Hilgendorf concluded the series with a look at legal education in the age of AI.


New course: AI - from theory to application

Following the great success of the "AI and Law" theme week, the Legal Tech Centre has turned the previous lecture into a regular course. In addition to concrete application possibilities in studies, the course also deals with the opportunities and risks as well as the legal challenges of artificial intelligence. The course will resume for the first time in the 2026 summer semester after the AI week.
