Specialization Program
The courses offered within the specialization are structured around three pillars:
- Public International Law
- European Law and Law of the European Union
- a seminar accompanying the Specialization Program
The specialization area is only required for students enrolled in the State Examination degree program in Law, and only these students are required to write a seminar paper as part of the accompanying seminar. However, all students are welcome to attend the lectures.
Completion of the Study Program
The specialization program can generally be completed within two semesters.
Students may enter the specialization in any semester.
Each course offered within the specialization is self-contained and can be understood independently.
Career Prospects
Knowledge of European and international human rights protection is indispensable for every lawyer. For example, human rights treaties ratified by the Federal Republic of Germany have the status of ordinary federal law and must be observed and applied by both administrative authorities and courts in the same way as any other federal statute, insofar as this is compatible with accepted methods of legal interpretation.
In addition, the specialization prepares students for careers in international organizations and internationally oriented non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as for diplomatic service.
