Professor Dr. Dieter H. Scheuing

Curriculum Vitae

Professor Dr. Dieter H. Scheuing studied law in Hamburg, Munich, Tübingen, and Freiburg im Breisgau, as well as in Paris as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). In 1973, he earned his doctorate (Docteur en droit) from the University of Paris II with an award-winning dissertation on French and European subsidy law. During his legal clerkship, he spent six months as a trainee at the European Commission. As a research assistant to Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Otto Bachof, he completed his habilitation in public law at the University of Tübingen in 1978. From 1978 to 1983, he served as Professor of Public Law at the University of Cologne.

In 1983, he was appointed Full Professor (Ordinarius) of German and Foreign Public Law, Public International Law, and European Law at the University of Würzburg, where he also directed the European Documentation Centre. Since 1995, his chair has held a Jean Monnet Chair in European Law, funded by the European Commission.

Professor Dr. Scheuing retired at the end of the summer semester of 2006.

Professor Scheuing is co-editor of a major commentary on the German Federal Immission Control Act (Bundes-Immissionsschutzgesetz) and of the European law publication series IUS EUROPAEUM.
