Curriculum Vitae

Prof. Dr. Christof Kerwer, born in 1964, studied law at the University of Saarland from 1984 to 1989. After his legal clerkship and second state examination in 1992, he worked in Saarbrücken as a research assistant at the chair of Procedural Law, Civil Law and Labor & Employment Law (Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Gerhard Lüke). There he received his doctorate on "Die Erfüllung in der Zwangsvollstreckung" (Carl Heymanns, 1996) (Translation: "The fulfillment in foreclosure") and was awarded the Dr. med. Eduard Martin Prize for his work.

From 1996 he worked as a research assistant at the chair of German and European Procedure and Labor & Employment Law as well as Civil Law (Prof. Dr. Stephan Weth). At the same time, he wrote his habilitation thesis on "Das europäische Gemeinschaftsrecht und die Rechtsprechung der deutschen Arbeitsgerichte" (Otto Schmidt, 2003) (Translation: "European Community law and the case law of the German labour courts") . After completing his habilitation procedure in February 2003, he was granted teaching authorisation for the subjects Civil Law, Civil Procedure , Labor & Employment Law and European Law.

After professorial appointments at the University of Cologne (SS 2003 and WS 2003/2004) and at the University of Bielefeld (SS 2004), Professor Kerwer initially held a professorship in Private Law, Commercial Law, Corporate Law and Labor & Employment Law at the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg. He worked there from October 2004 to October 2005, before being appointed to the Chair of Civil Law, Labor & Employment Law and Civil Procedure at the Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg in winter term 2005/2006.

From 01.10.2007 to 30.09.2010 Prof. Kerwer was dean of studies at the Faculty of Law. Since winter semester 2008/2009, he works part-time as a lecturer at the Verwaltungs- und Wirtschaftsakademie (Translation: Academy of Administration and Economics) in Würzburg; In November 2011, he also took over the direction of studies at the Academy. On 21.11.2014 Prof. Kerwer was awarded the "Prize for Good Teaching" by the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture, Science and the Arts.

Prof. Dr. Christof Kerwer is a member of the Association of Civil Law Teachers, the Association of Civil Procedure Law Teachers, the Scientific Association for International Procedural Law, the Association of Labor & Employment Law Teachers, the German Labor & Employment Court Association and the German University Association. His main areas of interest are European Labor & Employment Law, Civil and Labour Court Proceedings and Civil Law, primarily Contract Law. He attaches particular importance in all subjects represented by him to references to European law.

Professor Kerwer is married and has one daughter.
