Das Team 2018/2019

Alejandro  (22) is from Mexico, where he studies law at the Universidad Panamericana in Aguascalientes Mexico, but is currently enrolled at the University of Würzburg as an exchange student. Next to his studies in Mexico he worked at the Institute of Access to Justice (IAJ), an NGO, as civil litigant under the supervision of a lawyer, where he worked on cases for clients with little economic resources. Most cases dealt with promissory notes and property claims related to testaments, but he also gained experience in local commercial and civil law. Alejandro already has experience in moot court competitions as he participated in last year’s Philip C. Jessup International Moot and is now particularly motivated to prove himself again in the civil sector of the Willem C. Vis Moot. Besides his interest in law he is a passionate sportsman. He played football in his city’s selection and is a first-degree black belt in taekwondo.

Mihyar (28) lives in Germany since 2014. He was born and raised in Syria, where he also completed his academic education with a bachelor´s degree in law at the Damascus University. Since 2017 he studies law for an LL.M. degree at the University of Würzburg. Being a young man from Syria, taking an interest in international affairs comes naturally. Due to Syrians living daily through a cauldron of conflict: political, economic and even physical; he is especially aware that a clear-headed dialogue is favourable to resolve conflicts, which is the reason for his passion for law and arbitration. Mihyar highly values qualities as mediating conflicts and guiding parties to mutually beneficial settlements. He consequently dreams to achieve a job in this field to help and to follow his passion daily. This commitment also led Mihyar to participate in the Willem C. Vis Moot. He particularly wishes to establish contacts in the arbitration field and to improve his English for a prospective international career. Besides his studies Mihyar enjoys reading different types of literature, the nature and spending times with his family and friends.

Nele (21) studies law at the University of Würzburg, currently in the fifth semester. She grew up in Lage, a small town near Bielefeld. After graduating from school in 2016 Nele immediately started to follow her passion and began to study law. In September 2018, she accomplished an internship at Kapellmann Rechtsanwälte mbh, a law firm in Mönchengladbach, where she worked in the sector antitrust and compliance. Nele is particularly interested in commercial law, which led her to choose “Competition and Regulation” as the focus of her studies and to also participate in this year’s Willem C. Vis Moot Court. Nele hopes for further insight in commercial law from the participation and is looking forward to meeting law students and practitioners from around the globe.  Next to her studies, she also works as an assistant student at the German Notary Institute (DNotI) in Würzburg. In her free time, Nele likes doing sports as running, exercising in the gym and horse-riding. She also loves to cook and to read books.

Rebecca (23) is currently in the fifth semester of her studies at the University of Würzburg. She went to a Mary-Ward-School in her home town Fulda where she graduated in 2013. Due to Rebecca’s interest in legal affairs, she immediately afterwards started and completed a combined study program as a qualified judicial officer. Within that time, she had the opportunity to have insight in German local courts and learned a lot about practicing German law. Rebecca now follows her passion for international law and focuses on private international law, international trade law and arbitration. This passion also motivated her to participate in the current Willem C. Vis Moot of which she expects to deepen her knowledge in that sector and to stand her ground in the international character of this competition. Besides her studies, Rebecca is working as an assistant student at both, the chair of civil law, German and European trade law and company law of Prof. Dr. Teichmann and at the German Notary Institute (DNotI). In her free time Rebecca is an active volunteer in the local fire brigade and likes to act in a theatre group of which she is also a founding member.

Rüdiger promoviert und arbeitet am Lehrstuhl von Prof. Dr. Florian Bien. Während seines Studiums in Tübingen nahm er am Vis Moot teil und erreichte mit seinem Team die Runde der besten 16 Teams in Wien. Für die Universität Tübingen nahm er auch siegreich am ersten Moot Court des VGH Mannheim teil. Er plädierte in zwei französischsprachigen Moot Courts im Rahmen seines Masterstudienganges in Aix-en-Provence (Frankreich). Dem Vis Moot ist er treu geblieben und kehrte 2014 und 2016 als Schiedsrichter nach Wien zurück.

Katharina (Student Coach) arbeitet als Vis Student Coach und studentische Hilfskraft am Lehrstuhl von Prof. Dr. Oliver Remien. Sie hat 2017/2018 selbst am Vis Moot teilgenommen. Sie hofft, den Teilnehmern ihre noch frischen Eindrücke vom Vis Moot vermitteln und sie optimal auf diese Herausforderung vorbereiten zu können.

Michael (Student Coach) arbeitet als Vis Student Coach und studentische Hilfskraft am Lehrstuhl von Prof. Dr. Florian Bien. Er hat 2017/2018 selbst am Vis Moot teilgenommen und möchte nun seine Erfahrungen als Student Coach weitergeben.

 „Während meines Auslandsstudiums in Frankreich habe ich selbst an einem europarechtlichen Moot Court teilgenommen und die Erfahrung als große fachliche und menschliche Bereicherung empfunden. Selbstverständlich unterstütze ich daher auch den Vis Moot Court an der Universität Würzburg und die Studenten, die sich der Herausforderung stellen." Prof. Bien ist Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für globales Wirtschaftsrecht, internationale Schiedsgerichtsbarkeit und Bürgerliches Recht an der Universität Würzburg.

„Der Vis Moot ist für alle Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer nicht nur eine große fachliche und persönliche Bereicherung, sondern gibt ihnen zu einem frühen Zeitpunkt in ihrer Ausbildung die Möglichkeit, selbst aktiv und kreativ tätig zu werden, indem sie Schriftsätze verfassen und mündliche Plädoyers vor einem Schiedsgericht halten. Das macht nicht nur viel Spaß, sondern schult auch wichtige Soft Skills, die später im Examen und im Berufsleben von großer Bedeutung sind.“ Herr Prof. Buchwitz ist Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Bürgerliches Recht, Römisches Recht, Historische Rechtsvergleichung und Zivilprozessrecht an der Universität Würzburg.
